The sweet bar joins a growing listing of spots in Columbia that will specialize in evening dessert — just across the river within Columbia, Charleston-based dessert place Kaminsky’s has operated within the Vista since 2015, and never too far from the downtown region, a Lexington dessert pub and coffee shop, The Destination, opened up in the height from the COVID-19 pandemic. Dessert pubs appear to be something Columbia includes a market for, according to He O’Hara, who owns The Destination in Lexington and began it after hearing clients at his Irish bar, O’Hara’s Public House, show interest in after-restaurant desserts. “I was surprised by the variety of times that I heard visitors say, ‘No, we’re never going to have dessert because right after dinner, we’re going into city and we’re going to go to Kaminsky or we’re going to Nonnah’s to get cake, ‘ ” O’Hara said. “That just type of hung out there with me. I used to be like people are really likely to get in their car through Lexington and drive in to Columbia to go to a treat joint? “The dessert place, The Haven, he opened up in an existing coffee shop during the summer of 2020 has mainly found success on weekend break nights when people don’t wish to end their nights earlier, he said.
