May yearly event meant to emphasize local restaurants. ORANGEBURG, H. C. — Orangeburg’s The downtown area Revitalization Association held the annual Taste of Orangeburg on Sunday to emphasize restaurants in the area. Restaurants offered small portions of their foods in exchange for tokens eventgoers purchased from the association. A few of the foods on the menu integrated: “Shrimp and grits, gumbo, sliders, salad. And we are still buying, ” Jacquelyn Kitt said while looking for the Italian Ice trolley. On the dance floor, individuals in costumes, church, plus comfortable clothing crowded, chanting the electric slide. People who wore costumes could get into a costume contest. The flavor is a 24-year tradition in order to the community bond over foods. “We have eight various food vendors here which are our local restaurants. We now have rotary here with their well-known turkey legs, ” Candice Roberson with the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association said. Some of the vendors were Buck Shape Plantation, Ms. Tooky’s Cafe, Rotary Club of Orangeburg-Morning, Palmetto Peach Catering, Orangeburg Country Club, Original House associated with Pizza, Randolph Artisan Italian language Ice, and Broughton Road Cafe & Ice Cream. Lawrence and Jacquelyn Kitt have already been going to the event since the 90s. They said they’d never skip it. “The fun the meals the crowd, and the fine weather. And supporting Orangeburg South Carolina, ” they said. Seve Aghazadah and Julia Wannamaker, who were dressed up as Doctor Strange and She-Hulk, are usually newer to the area. Someone said this event is the definition of neighborhood. “This small community plus small town feeling plus that’s one of the reasons we really like living in Orangeburg, ” one particular said. The event also showcased performances and a costume competition.
