One week after the last state champion was crowned, many of the state’s top players showcased their skills at the Grand Strand.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Spring Valley linebacker Evan Javis recorded two interceptions, his seconds coming in the final minutes of a 22-14 win for the North All-Stars over the South in the 75th annual Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

The win was bittersweet for Javis because the North head coach is Robin Bacon who recently stepped down as the Vikings’ head coach, a position he has had since 2015. With more than 30 years in the coaching profession, the former A.C. Flora head coach has been an assistant at several Midlands schools. He has not announced what his next job will be and quite frankly, he may not even know. His decision to step down was based on spending more time with his family although it’s expected after his batteries are recharged, Bacon will once again return to the profession.

Brookland-Cayce quarterback and Elon commit Tanner Staton opened the scoring for the South team with a five-yard touchdown pass to Lower Richland’s Nate Branch who has committed to play at East Carolina. Staton was named the Offensive MVP for the South team.
