COLUMBIA, S.C. — For the first time in program history, the South Carolina men’s tennis team has been picked to win the SEC title. The preseason coaches poll put the Gamecocks on top with 164 points, just ahead of Tennessee who earned 156 points.
The preseason poll is voted on by the men’s tennis head coach at each SEC institution and is based on a 13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 vote.
The Gamecocks will begin the 2024 season as the No. 5 team in the ITA Division I rankings. Head coach Josh Goffi will be leaning heavily on the six returning members of the squad who reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships last season.
Carolina will begin its dual season Sunday with a road match at the top-ranked team in the country, Virginia. The SEC season begins March 1st in when the Gamecocks host LSU.
