GREENVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team is in Greenville as they get ready for yet another Sweet Sixteen appearance.
The team is taking on UCLA Saturday at 2 p.m. in the same arena where Carolina won the SEC Tournament earlier this month: Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Head Coach Dawn Staley and her team headed to up to Greenville Thursday.
The team got a chance to practice on that basketball floor Friday morning as they prepare for the Bruins. The Gamecocks and Bruins faced off once this season in late November when the gamecocks won 73-64.
If they win Saturday, they’d play in an Elite Eight game Monday, also in Greenville. From there, it would be on to Dallas for the Final Four.
Coach Staley says her team has to be ready, because the Bruins can find weakness in their opponents.
“They’re better,” Staly said. “They’re just really patient offensively, they wait until there’s some lackness in your defense and they make you pay for it. They’re well coached”
USC is seeking its second consecutive national championship and third in program history. They’re also hoping to have their first undefeated season ever.
As of Friday afternoon, tickets were still available for the game. News19 found the cheapest online for about $35 for the upper level.
