COLUMBIA, S.C. — Shane Beamer continues to add to his roster and on Thursday, he received a commitment from a transfer wide receiver who will help replenish that position.
Dillon native Ahmari Huggins-Bruce who has spent the last three season at Louisville will use his final year of eligibility in Columbia.
Huggins-Bruce is listed at 5-11 and 170 pounds. In 38 games with the Cardinals, he recorded 80 receptions for 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Gamecocks also received a pledge from a transfer from Charlotte in linebacker Demetrius Knight II who was named First Team All-American Athletic Conference this past season. Knight, listed at 6-2 and 247 pounds, was the team’s leading tackler and ranked second in the AAC total tackles (96) and third in tackles per game (8.0).
This comes on the same day that Pup Howard, who spent his freshman season at South Carolina, committed to Florida. Howard is a Jacksonville native and was expected to join the Florida program once he entered the transfer portal this week.
Carolina added another player from the MEAC with the commitment from Torricelli Simpkins from North Carolina Central. Simpkins (6-5, 320) was named MEAC offensive lineman of the week three times last season and was named a Stats Perform FCS Third Team All-America selection after being named MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year.
