Rocky Topped! Gamecocks blowout Vols 63-38 to score major upset

The team won 63-38, turning the tables on the nation’s most explosive offense.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Gamecocks have pulled off one of the big shockers of the college football season–and one of the biggest upsets in school history–as they knocked off fifth-ranked Tennessee Saturday night in Columbia

The team won 63-38, turning the tables on the nation’s most explosive offense, as the USC offense repeatedly ran past Vols defenders all night long.

Gamecock quarterback Spencer Rattler, who’s had up and down performances since joining the team via the transfer portal in the off-season, turned back the clock, looking every bit the five-star quarterback prospect that he was out of high school and the freshman sensation he showed himself to be at Oklahoma. Rattler finished with 438 passing yards and 6 touchdowns.

Where does this victory rank in the pantheon of Gamecock upsets? Obviously the 2010 win over Alabama and the 2019 one over Georgia come to mind. But this may top those. In 2010 that Gamecock team was one of their best ever, winning the SEC Eastern Division. And in 2019, Georgia was good, but they weren’t the prolific scorers that this year’s Vols team was.

More to come….
