12th – A squall line of showers and thunderstorms developed ahead of
an approaching cold front. An unusually moist atmosphere and slow
moving storms produced locally heavy rainfall across the Central
Savannah River Area during the evening hours. The town of Waynesboro
in Burke County was especially hit hard by the heavy rainfall.
Rainfall amounts from 4 to nearly 7 inches fell across the the
county. Across the CSRA, rainfall amounts from 2 to 5 inches were
common. The heavy rainfall flooded apartments, homes and vehicles.
Some of the homes had up to a half a foot of water in them. Two
people had to be rescued from a stalled vehicle in flood waters.
Here are some of the rainfall totals from the event on the evening
of the 12th.
