SURVEY SUMMARY:
THUNDERSTORM DOWNBURST WINDS BEGAN EAST OF DREHER ISLAND STATE
PARK WITHIN THE TIMBERLAKE COMMUNITY IN LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC
AROUND 10:28 PM. THE DOWNBURST WINDS CONTINUED EAST-NORTHEAST TO
PUTNAM’S LANDING CROSSING WESSINGER RD AND OLD LEXINGTON HIGHWAY.
AS WINDS MOVED INTO RICHLAND COUNTY A WIND GUST OF 61 MPH WAS
RECORDED BY THE RCWINDS MESONET SITE AT COAST GUARD ISLAND SHORTLY
AFTER 10:40PM. WINDS THEN FELL BELOW SEVERE SPEEDS FARTHER EAST.
THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TREE DAMAGE OCCURRED NEAR THE INTERSECTION
OF TIMBERLAKE DR AND FAIRWAY RIDGE LN AND CONTINUED EAST-NORTHEAST
ONTO AMICKS FERRY RD AND OXENBRIDGE WAY. THE TIMBERLAKE COUNTRY
CLUB REPORTED 60 TO 70 TREES UPROOTED OR SNAPPED AROUND THE GOLF
COURSE. THERE WAS ALSO SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE ALONG PUTNAM DRIVE. IN
THESE AREAS, NUMEROUS TREES WERE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED, FALLING ON
HOMES AND VEHICLES. WIND SPEEDS FOR THESE LOCATIONS WERE ESTIMATED
AT 80 MPH.
