The USC baseball team continued fall practice Wednesday while remembering Tommy Moody, the longtime radio analyst and former Gamecock infielder who passed away.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — It was late Tuesday night when South Carolina head baseball coach Mark Kingston learned a fixture at Gamecock baseball games both home and away had died.

Longtime radio analyst and former USC infielder Tommy Moody passed away at the age of 69. That triggered an outpouring of tributes on social media and his colleagues at 107.5 The Game spent their Wednesday shows looking for the right words to convey what Tommy meant to those who knew him best.

Just as Tommy’s radio colleagues would show up for work at the studios, the USC baseball team also showed up for work as it continued fall practice with a Wednesday scrimmage. But the coaches, players and staff all went about their business knowing one of their own would never be coming back to Founders Park. Kingston says Tommy was as much a part of the program as anyone given his history as a player and his time in the broadcast booth.

On Monday, there will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. on the field a Founders Park. Given Tommy’s love of Gamecock baseball, that will be a perfect setting for family, friends, colleagues and fans to pay their respects to Tommy.
