COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Gamecock athletics family is mourning the passing of former USC infielder and longtime radio color analyst Tommy Moody.
A broadcaster who worked in several roles on 107.5 The Game, Moody’s death was announced on social media by his radio colleague Jay Phillips.
A former Gamecock baseball player in the 1970s, Moody had worked as the analyst on radio broadcasts of South Carolina baseball since 2000. He also was heard on several shows on the flagship station of South Carolina athletics 107.5 The Game where his vast knowledge of Gamecock athletics was used to inform and entertain listeners.
Moody previously served as the president of the University of South Carolina Association of Lettermen in 1992. He also served as the USC Athletic Hall of Fame chairman.
His passing generated an outpouring of messages from the likes of head baseball coach Mark Kingston, head football coach Shane Beamer and former USC head football coach Will Muschamp.
A graduate of A.C. Flora High School, Moody was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. But his love of baseball was secondary to his love of his two daughters and his two grandsons.
Tommy Moody was 69 and passed away in his sleep according to a friend.
