COLUMBIA, S.C. — One day after his contract was approved by the South Carolina Board of Trustees, Mike Furrie was answering questions in his first question and answer session as the Gamecocks’ new wide receivers coach.
Furrie is more than familiar with Columbia after he took his son to one of Shane Beamer’s football camps. Throw in mutual friends and colleagues with offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains and you have a major candidate to fill the opening on Beamer’s staff. After the interview process, Beamer and Loggains were convinced Furrie was the right fit for Carolina.
A former head coach at Kentucky Christian and a LImestone for two stops, Furrie and Shawn Elliott are the most recent hires by Beamer and both are former head coaches who chose to return to the role of position coach.
