Do the Christmas spirit arrive a bit too soon for you this season? Or maybe it always will? In Columbia, the season appears to hit even days just before Thanksgiving — some vacation performing arts productions opened up before then — plus doesn’t stop for the whole of December. Thankfully, for that grinches in town, the city’s event calendar has lots of non-holiday entertainment. I’ve put together this list of four recommendations for Columbia events that will stray far from holiday jingles. Because we all get lots of the holiday cheer from the supermarket’s playlist anyway. And if occur to be up for a drive, our own friend Kalyn Oyer put together a similar list of non-holiday displays in Charleston. Stagbriar with New Brookland TavernDec. second . Show at 7 g. m. $12-$15. w/ Easy going, Slow Funeral and Kat GandyOne of the biggest brands in local music, Stagbriar, plays at the group’s nearby haunt New Brookland. With this stage, the music group needs little introduction during these pages. The two siblings, Alex and Emily McCollum, produced the band a little more than a decade ago and have launched four collections since the inception (three albums plus an EP). All are well received locally, however in 2020 the group’s discharge “Suppose You Grow” had been named the top album within South Carolina in this publication’s yearly Best of South Carolina Music election. As of late, the band provides teased a new album upon its social media pages plus played some of those songs in its live shows. It’s yet another reason to seek out this indie-folk rock powerhouse for the display this week. editor’s note: Alex McCollum works for the Free of charge Times business department. He or she and other members of the section have no input on the content decision-making process. Hardy on the Township AuditoriumDec. 3. Doorways at 6: 30 l. m., showtime at seven: 30 p. m. $39. 50-$55. If you’re a nation fan, chances are you’ve noticed a Hardy song even though you don’t realize it. The country songs singer is perhaps best known with regard to his songwriting chops, exactly where he’s written tracks for that likes of Florida Atlanta Line, Blake Shelton as well as the (controversial) Morgan Wallen. This individual comes to The Township for any concert, presumably, of their own work. He’s best known meant for tracks like “One Ale, ” which topped the united states Country Airplay chart (the most played songs upon country radio station). Presently there he sings of substance-infused love: “One beer becomes a lit cigarette burning up into a two beer buzz/three bears turns into five after that six/then a love consumed kiss in the back of that vehicle. “The Mississippi native final released his unfortunately entitled “Hixtape, Vol. 2, inch a mixtape follow-up to some 2019 collection bearing exactly the same name, and is set to to produce new album in early 2023. That album, “The Mockingbird & the Crow, inch will be under the record content label Big Loud. Corey Feldman at New Brookland TavernDec. 11. Show at seven p. m. $23 ahead of time, $25 day of display, $125 VIP. Look, what exactly is there to say? Corey Feldman is best known as the young acting professional in films like “The Lost Boys, ” The particular Goonies, ” “Gremlins” plus plenty more. In the years since, Feldman has released a solo music profession and become an outspoken endorse of stopping sexual kid abuse in Hollywood. Regarding how he ended up within West Columbia’s indie stone club is anybody’s speculate, but his December display brings him to city. His musical output continues to be mixed, to put it gently, but has attracted the loyal following. Feldman particularly sparred with YouTube songs critic Anthony Fantano, exactly who declared his 2016 lp “Angelic 2 the Core” one of the worst albums of the year. Regardless, Feldman provides a hefty body of function and a whole lot of enthusiasm for what he really does. Jump, Little Children at The SenateDec. 15. Doors at seven p. m., showtime with 8 p. m. $33. Charleston’s Jump, Little Children supplies a perhaps tenuous link to modern-day era of indie rock and roll, with vocal-driven tracks which are buoyed by melodic tow hooks and a strong guitar spine. More than that, however , the particular band is connected to Southern Carolina’s music scene. The girls is a regular player within Charleston, and some members also got their start busking on the Holy City’s roads. The group, now a trio after two members left in 2021, comes to Columbia for a show at The United states senate. It’s part of the group’s goodbye tour, which comes after the “Foundering” album release within 2023. They close the particular tour with back-to-back Charleston shows on Dec. twenty nine and 30.
