Hydrology/River Stages…
Although there were two heavy rainfall events across the Carolinas
into east-central Georgia, there were no reports of river flooding
across the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area. There are three
main drivers for the lack of river flooding during the late spring
season. The increase in evaporation from warmer temperatures and
longer days. The increase in transpiration as moisture moves through
plants and leaves and returns to the atmosphere as water vapor.
Additionally, the increase in leaves and foliage across the region
decrease the amount of runoff into streams and rivers.

The 3-Month Climate Outlook
…(June/July/August)…
The outlook calls for about a 40 to 60 percent chance of above
normal temperatures along with a 33 to 40 percent chance of above
normal precipitation.
ENSO (EL NINO SOUTHERN OSCILLATION)…
…El Nino Watch…
ENSO Neutral conditions are observed. Equatorial surface
temperatures are near-to-above average across most of the Pacific
Ocean. A transition from ENSO-Neutral is expected in the next couple
of months, with a greater than 90 percent chance of El Nino
persisting into the Northern Hemisphere winter.
