April 7th – 8th…A cold front moved slowly across the region and
stalled near the southeast coast. This system produced heavy
rainfall across the Carolinas and east-central Georgia. Rainfall
amounts ranged from 2 to 3 inches with some locally heavy rainfall
amounts over 5 inches in Aiken County. The heavy rainfall produced
minor to moderate river flooding on many of the area rivers. Here
are some of the rainfall reports from the event:

April 26th – 27th…A complex weather system along the Gulf coast
lifted northeast into the southern Appalachian mountains during the
period. The system produced very heavy rainfall across the Upstate
of South Carolina with amounts from 3 to 5 inches. The system also
produced strong thunderstorms that produced enough pea size hail to
cover the ground in portions of Calhoun County. The rainfall across
the Midlands and CSRA ranged from 1 to 2 inches. The heavy rainfall
in the Upstate producing minor to moderate river flooding along the
Saluda, Broad and Congaree River systems.
April 30th…An upper level area of low pressure and associated
surface low moved across the region during the morning hours into
the afternoon hours. The system produced a few thunderstorms along
with small hail and very strong wind gusts that downed a few trees
across the Midlands. Pea size hail was reported in Sumter County
with trees down along the south shore of Lake Murray and in
Clarendon County.
Here are some of the highest wind gusts that were associated with
the system:

Rainfall was at or above normal across the Carolinas and east-
central Georgia during the month of April. At the beginning of April
streamflows remained higher than normal from a heavy rainfall event
during the last week of March. There were two river flood events
during the month. Heavy rain fell across the area river basins on
the 7th and 8th of April. Rainfall amounts ranged from 2 to 3 inches
with some local amounts above 5 inches across Aiken County. The
second event occurred on the 26th and 27th of April. The heaviest
rain fell in the Upstate where amounts from 3 to 5 inches were
common. Lower amounts fell across the Midlands and CSRA with amounts
from 1 to 2 inches. There was a localized minor flood event along
the N. Fork of the Edisto River on the 13th and 14th. Locally heavy
rainfall pushed the already bankfull river just above flood stage
(8.0 feet) on the 14th.
