Brand new Italian wine bar within Five Points, Bar Nan Sasso, opens Friday. Which to expect.

The Venetian-inspired wines bar comes from Enzo’s Delicatessen owner Joe Cardinale, which opened the Italian meal shop right next door within August 2020. Cardinale initially had plans to open your wine bar at the same time, but the outbreak delayed the process. The two places sit side by side in one of the city’s biggest nightlife and amusement district Five Points, that is known for its popularity amongst college students. Cardinale worked being a chef in the kitchen of Jake’s Bar and Grill, the well-known establishment in the area which known for its impressive pub food.

“Most of the kids that will worked for me (at Jake’s) were from the Northeast, and they also just wanted like a great sandwich and like poultry cutlets and meatballs, and we would just make it meant for ourselves, ” Cardinale mentioned in a previous interview. “And then like the other workers of Jake’s wanted all of them and then customers saw this so we started doing such as late night pop ups designed for Enzo’s and it kind of became popular and we made it our own factor. “The wine bar is among the a handful of other similar places that have opened in Columbia in recent years — from Town Grit, which focuses on Spanish-inspired small plates and gleaming wine, to Lula Drake, a dimly lit wine pub in historic digs — but it’s one of the first concentrate on Italian wine regions.
