AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and Cowden Plantation will be hosting two free deer hunts for members of the military community in memory of US Army Spc. Thomas Caughman.
Interested members of the military — active, retired, reserved and disabled — are encouraged to complete the online application form and submit the completed form for a drawing for either the November 10 or December 1 hunts at the Aiken County habitat.
SCDNR will be accepting completed applications via email to caughmanveteranhunt@dnr.sc.gov until November 5. Those who have their application drawn will receive a confirmation email with further details about the hunt, including lunch served before the hunt and the opportunity to tour the Jarrett Rifles Gun Shop and Museum on site.
Lexington native Spc. Caughman was killed in 2004 when rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire in Baghdad struck his Humvee. He was serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
