ACC announces future locations for championships

9 February 2024

The announcement will include more than 40 of the league’s championships.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro will play host to several ACC Championships in the coming years, including the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2027 and 2029.

On Thursday, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced more than 40 of the league’s championships will be spread across North Carolina cities in the coming years, including Greensboro.

Here’s a look at what’s coming to Greensboro:

ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament: 2027, 2029ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament: 2024, 2025ACC Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship: 2024, 2025, 2027, 2028, and 2029ACC Gymnastics Tournament: 2024, 2025, 2026ACC Women’s Golf: 2025, 2027, 2029

The tournaments are a big win for the city of Greensboro.

No venue has hosted the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament more than the Greensboro Coliseum, and 2027 will mark the 30th time.

The ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will split time between Charlotte and Greensboro, as the women’s tournament will tip off in the Greensboro Coliseum in 2024 and 2025.

The Greensboro Coliseum will also host men’s and women’s swimming and diving as well as gymnastics.

The Greensboro Aquatic Center will host the ACC men’s and women’s swimming and diving championships in five of the next six years — 2024, 2025, 2027, 2028, and 2029. The ACC Gymnastics championship will be held three straight years — 2024, 2025, and 2026 — at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The ACC Women’s Golf Championship will be played on a variety of McConnell Golf properties throughout the Southeast through 2029. The 2024 event will be held at the Sedgefield Country Club in 2025, 2027, and 2029.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan and Greensboro Sports Foundation president Richard Beard shared their reaction to the ACC’s announcement.

“Thirty-percent of the ACC championships are coming to Greensboro. We always put fans first and make sure they have an unparalleled experience,” Vaughan said.

“Tournament town is alive and well and we are excited about what’s coming up,” she said.

“It is a great day for Greensboro and Tournament Town,” Beard said.

Already in 2024, Greensboro is playing host to the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament and the ACC Gymnastics Championship. Tickets for those events in March are already on sale.

The March tournament will be the 24th time we’ve hosted the women’s basketball tournament.

In 2023, the ACC officially moved its headquarters from Greensboro to Charlotte, leaving Greensboro’s future as “Tournament Town” up in the air. Greensboro has hosted the most ACC men’s and women’s basketball tournaments out of all other cities.

ACC officials have previously said Greensboro will not be forgotten and will still play host to big tournaments.
