COLUMBIA, S.C. — For the past seven seasons, Shawn Elliott lived out his dream of being a college head football coach.
The Camden native went 41-44 at Georgia State which included a 4-1 mark in bowl games and number of firsts for the Panther program. In 2017, he capped off his first season in Atlanta by leading that program to its first bowl victory.
In 2021. Elliott led Georgia State to a program-best eight wins included a a win over #21 Coastal Carolina, the first win for GSU over a ranked opponent.
But while Elliott was overseeing the Georgia State program, his family remained in Columbia because they loved the area and his two kids did not want to leave their friends. Elliott, not letting a three-hour drive serve as an excuse, would at least once a week drive back to Columbia to watch his kids compete in their respective sports.
That drive is no longer necessary as Elliott was recently hired as the Gamecocks’ tight ends coach/run game coordinator. It marks a second act at South Carolina for Elliott who served as the offensive line coach from 2010-2016.
