LEXINGTON, S.C. — In a region with head basketball coaches who have either won or played for a state championship, White Knoll has hired someone who fits in both of those categories.
The Timberwolves have hired Willie Thomas to lead their boys basketball program. His hiring was approved Tuesday evening by the Lexington One School Board.
Thomas comes to White Knoll after six seasons at Orangeburg-Wilkinson where he led the Bruins to an appearance in the 2022 3A state championship game where they fell to Blue Ridge.
Thomas has five state championships on his resume. He won two at Bowman High School (1989 and 1991) and three at Holly Hill-Roberts (1996, 1997 and 1999).
In the spring of 2022, Thomas was inducted into the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In August, he will enter another hall of fame, the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame.
