Authorities is discussing a possible aufschub or conditional approval. IRMO, S. C. — Irmo town council members are usually discussing a hot switch topic in town tonight: Self storage units. This is because over the past year, Irmo has seen an increase of several storage device businesses making their way to city. According to town council, when Irmo residents wanted, most people would have room to shop their stuff. Locals inform News 19 they normally are not too keen on these huge blocks of building space. “I think their concern mainly is around just the aesthetics, that they are ugly and they don’t have to become, ” said Erik Sickinger, Irmo town council associate. Sickinger is bringing this particular topic to town council’s workshop Tuesday in hopes to locate a happy medium for any upcoming storage unit businesses. “It is our job as being a council to ensure that zoning plus development is in line with the town’s strategic plan plus fit our goals, inch Sickinger said. Some choices include creating a moratorium, setting up a distance of one storage space unit to another, a certain visual requirement, or limiting variety of units and how many tales high. One local, Knutson Williams explains that a storage space unit is what’s assisting him move his things after his roommate circumstance turned sour. “For comfort, for quick, easy factors for an easy fix to some bad situation, ” Williams said. A balance of thinking of residents’ concerns while nevertheless promoting business is the objective. According to councilman Sickinger, given that tonight is a workshop, based on the conversation, council will choose whether or not to make it an official plan item next month.
